The Numerical Solution of 2-D Tidal Current and Suspended Load in Yamen Estuary of the Pearl River

Orthogonal Curvilinear Coordinates is applied in solution of the tidal current and suspended load concentration of the estuary with more inflows and more islands. The shape of estuary boundaries is complicated and great variation of ratio of length-width. The continuity equation and the momentum equation are discreted with finite-difference method. The Finite-Volume Approach (SIMPLEC) and ADI method are used in solution of the difference equations at the same time. The mobile boundary and "condensation" technique are used in calculation of the 2-D tidal current and suspended load in the Yamen estuary of Pearl River. The problem of mobile boundary with the water level has been overcome. The numerical model has simulated the flood with high tide in July, 1992 and the dry period with middle tide in November, 1992 successfully ( Tang and Jin, 2003 ).

A multimedia demo system of the tidal and suspended load movement processes in estuary has been developed with special software. The tidal fluctuation and the tidal motion can recur to computer screen dynamically.
