Physical Processes Based Model of Runoff and Sediment Yield

from Small Watershed

                                                                               HUM-1

HUM-1 means Hohai University Model 1 ( Tang et al., 1990, Tang and Chen 1997 ). It is a physical processes based numerical model of runoff and sediment yield which is suitable for small watershed or region where their areas less than 100 square kilometers. In this model, the kinetic wave theory is used to describe the overland flow and the river flow. The finite-difference method is used to discrete the continuity equation and momentum equation. The calculation formulas of the soil erosion are deduced by means of the principle of power done by flow and energy balance. The parameters of the model have been calibrated with measurement data in the catchment. The model can be used to simulate the runoff and sediment processes with the time and geographic space. HUM-1 has been applied in many small watersheds with different scales since 1990 and the model results are satisfactory.
